Dartmouth VIVO is a web application that enables the discovery of research and scholarship across disciplines. Connect. Share. Discover.

Purpose

Supported by SYNERGY, Dartmouth VIVO builds on the data in the current Geisel Faculty Database website and offers opportunities for discovering who is doing what in scholarship – tools used in grant development, team-building, mentoring, and social network analysis. Our local implementation of VIVO, a member-supported, open source software and ontology for representing scholarship, Dartmouth VIVO creates a connected, integrated record of the scholarly work at Geisel, ready for reporting, visualization, and analysis. VIVO supports browsing and a search function which returns faceted results for rapid retrieval of desired information. Content in a VIVO installation may be maintained manually, brought into VIVO in automated ways from local systems of record, such as HR, grants, course, and faculty activity databases, or from database providers such as publication aggregators and funding agencies.

VIVO is one of a suite of open technology projects supported by DuraSpace, an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization providing leadership and innovation for open technologies that promote durable, persistent access to digital data. VIVO is supported with in-kind contributions of development resources and financial donations through the DuraSpace Membership Program, which includes Dartmouth College among the 150+ institutions and organizations that help support VIVO and other DuraSpace projects.
